Communications Intern
I improved internal and external communication for GE Aviation in Hooksett, New Hampshire during my winter and summer breaks in college. I primarily supported the HR team, but I also worked with the Blisk, Sectors, and Tubing businesses along with other supporting departments throughout my time. I worked closely with our site’s senior leaders to implement effective and successful communication strategies. Some of my responsibilities included:
- Serving as a co-leader of the communication team
- Writing and publishing articles regarding company strategies and priorities, site events, and employee spotlights
- Administering site photography and graphic design
- Assisting with organizing and managing site events
- Exercising promotional writing skills by writing copy for site's advertising materials
The Story of #1
I wrote spotlight articles for employees at our site to recognize them for their hard work and achievements. I would sit down with each employee that was nominated for one and got to know them. Afterward, I wrote and published their spotlight. Each piece was distributed to the site via our internal email system.
This piece focused on the last employee to be recalled back to work after she was laid-off because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It signified that the site was somewhat back to normal and confirmed that every employee who wanted to return after being laid-off was now back and that we could all move forward. I received a lot of compliments from my colleagues. This article also attracted the attention of one of the GE Aviation executives and he forwarded it to his team.
This spotlight allowed me to demonstrate my strong written communication skills.
Air Show Print Ad
Our site sponsored the 2021 Pease Air Show in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I wrote this print ad that was published in the event’s program book. The purpose was to market job opportunities available at our site and encourage people to apply to current openings.
This project allowed me to exercise my promotional writing skills.
Sustainability Week Awareness
To commemorate GE Aviation’s inaugural sustainability week, I researched how our processes and products have helped the industry become more sustainable. I reported some key findings that I discovered and distributed this summary to our internal email system for the site to read.
This piece demonstrates my research and written communication skills.
